In the 60 year history of RELC, a lot of change has occurred in its home community of Hilliard, OH. RELC continues to evolve as the needs of God’s people are ever-changing. This is a very active congregation, with ministries that work both within and outside the walls of our building.
RELC Statement of Faith
What is a Lutheran? What do Lutherans believe? These are good questions so let’s start with the basics. The following comes from our church constitution and is our statement of what we believe:
This congregation confesses the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
This congregation confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and the Gospel as the power of God for the salvation of all who believe. Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate, through whom everything was made and through whose life, death, and resurrection God fashions a new creation.
The canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the written Word of God. Inspired by God’s Spirit speaking through their authors, they record and announce God’s revelation centering in Jesus Christ. Through them God’s Spirit speaks to us to create and sustain Christian faith and fellowship for service in the world.
This congregation accepts the canonical Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of its proclamation, faith, and life.
This congregation accepts the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds as true declarations of the faith of this congregation.
This congregation accepts the Unaltered Augsburg Confession as a true witness to the Gospel, acknowledging as one with it in faith and doctrine all churches that likewise accept the teachings of the Unaltered Augsburg Confession.
OK, that’s a lot of “churchy” talk. What does any of that actually mean?
Simply put, at Resurrection we believe that…
- God is known to us as the triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
- Jesus Christ is the son of God, our Lord and savior, sent into the world because God loves us all
- Jesus was crucified, died, and was raised again to new life
The story of Jesus is the power of God in this world for forgiveness, healing, peace, and new life both now and in the life to come after death. We believe that forgiveness, healing, peace, and new life are unlimited promises and gifts from Jesus, given to us by God simply because of grace and not because we have worked for it or earned it in any way. We receive those promises and gifts from God in Jesus Christ by trusting in the promises God has made. We believe that this grace from God is taught in all the Bible. The Bible is God’s word and is both the inspiration and guide for our individual Christian lives and our lives together in this big community we call church. We also believe that in order to know and learn God’s truth we have been given tools like the Church’s creeds and confessions from the church’s history.
Trusting in that unlimited and free grace from God given to us in Jesus Christ, we at Resurrection believe we are called to welcome all, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, or how much/little wealth you have. We are then called to tell the story of Jesus Christ to ourselves and to all the world. Through hearing and trusting in the story of Jesus we grow together into the people God calls us to be.
In short, we…
Welcome all. Tell the story. Grow as disciples.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is worship like?
Worship at Resurrection is a blend of both contemporary and traditional music. Our worship service follows a traditional liturgy, that is a regular pattern that comes from the church’s history. Worship centers on both preaching and Holy Communion which is given every week.
Why is Holy Communion every week?
Lutherans believe that God gives us grace in two ways: first, through hearing the story of God’s grace as we find in the bible, and second, by receiving grace and forgiveness and Jesus himself through partaking in Holy Communion. It is, therefore, important for the strengthening of our faith, the relief of our guilt, and the growth of our discipleship that we receive Holy Communion every week.
Does this church baptize infants?
Yes. We believe that in Holy Baptism God gives the gift of grace and forgiveness to all people, including infants.
How long is worship
Most Sundays worship takes around an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. Special Sundays like Christmas and Easter go a bit longer.
What is this church’s marriage policy?
Marriages are performed at the discretion of Pastor Dave and you should contact him for more information.
What time does worship start?
10AM on Sundays. We would love to have you come and worship with us in person or online. Special services will have alternative starting times.
