Xiao Liu

Soprano Chair and Choir Assistant

Xiao Liu, originally from China, is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance at The Ohio State University. As a young opera singer, her opera roles include Miss Jessel of Turn of the Screw, Bastienne in Bastien and Bastienne, The Dew Fairy in Hansel and Gretel and Clara in Signor Deluso with OSU Opera Theatre, and Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring with IPAI Germany. Xiao is also a crossover soprano singer in classical and contemporary music. She was invited to perform and showcase her artistic thoughts between music and artworks on view in the Wexner Center for the Arts. She joined the NOW Festival of Capital University in 2024 and collaborated with Ukrainian composer Alla Zagaykevych and successfully performed “Misto for Soprano and Electronics”. She joined the most pivotal works of the late 20th century, Steve Reich’s iconic Drumming as a vocalist. She has performed with OSU Percussion Ensemble, Ohio Chamber Musicians, and OSU Chinese Folk Music Orchestra.

As a young scholar, Xiao has presented at the 2025 Chinese Oral and Performing Literature Conference and the 2025 “Shared Traditions: More than Human Experiences” Conference. She received a Bachler degree from Beijing Normal University (China), and a Master degree from Manhattan School of Music.
